Since televisions replaced radios in the year of 1950, they have become a very important part of the mass media communication. In today’s world, it has become difficult to imagine our life without a television. The modern television was developed from its ancestors called the Octagons, which was created by the General Motors in 1928. Gradually, this primitive technology was developed into something called home TV sets that were available commercially. In the year of 1940, the first colour television was developed by Peter Goldmark by the help of a mechanical concept which could reproduce the colors as seen in a camera lens. It took nearly another 10 years or so, for the color televisions to gain popularity among the masses. In the year 1948, Community Antenna Television or cable television was provided to the people. Soon, many other inventions were made in the field of television. In the year of 1956, the first remote control for television was made with the help of wires. But it had a defect that it could not be used in the sunlight. In the following years, much advancement was made in the television field. After some years, in 1981 the first HDTV was also introduced. The 21-inch full-color plasma TV was made available in the year of 1992. Eventually, in the year of 2010, 3D TVs were made available for the viewers.
The 90s became a revolutionary year for TVs by bringing about all the major technological changes in the television. Various television programs like ‘Friends’, ’Seinfeld’, ‘The Simpsons’, ‘Twin Peaks’, ‘The Sopranos’, ‘Sex and the City’, etc., kept the viewers more and more glued to their TVs, thus increasing its demand day by day. During the 2000s, all the major advancements came into being. DVD player, home heaters, LCDs, LEDs, Plasma Technology, and much more was introduced into the television world.
From fat to thin, black and white to wide color gamut, smaller screens to larger screens, average picture quality to HD picture quality, no cable to Wi-Fi enabled device; the modern television has all the major advancements that any new era person can ask for. Thanks to the different major brands of TV like Micromax TV, LG TV, Sony TV, Onida TV, etc., televisions nowadays have become an essential part of every home.
